Make It Safe Campaign for Child Safety

Child safety is always of paramount concern and the BBSA is urging homeowners and building users where children are present, to ensure they consider reducing potential risks associated with blind operating cords.

The BBSA and it’s members have been very active in developing simple, effective low-cost safety features that are suitable for all blinds. These include a safe way of securing cords by tension devices as well as connectors which simply pull apart should undue pressure be applied, but that can simply be connected again. There are also different operating methods and even window blinds which do not have looped operating cords, so there are lots of options available.

Many of the options offered can be retrofitted to existing blinds so you do not have to wait until you replace a blind to improve it’s safety.

British Blind Company are offering a free safety check where we will be happy to advise on which of the many safety devices available would best suit your requirements.

New Expert Designer introduced into Berkshire and Buckinghamshire

British Blind Company are delighted that Sue Bean has joined the design team to cover the Bucks and Berks area. Sue has around 11 years experience in the blind and shutter industry, having worked previously as senior sales designer for Appeal Blinds and for Coolscreen Blinds.

British Blind Company installs awnings to British Embassy in Algiers

Earlier this year we were asked to install 6 Droparm awnings to the newly refurbished British Embassy overlooking the harbour bay in Algiers. The designers specified a green and white stripe which you can see in the photos, looked really stunning against the white plastered walls and the bright blue sky.

We had to stay within the secure compound at all times and were escorted in armour plated vehicles to and from the airport.

Al Fresco Dining at Reigate College

Reigate College in Surrey has been expanding its capacity for the last couple of years and as part of its recent addition of a new refectory the Property management team approached British Blind Company to come up with a solution to shade an area adjacent to the refectory where students could be protected not only from the sun but also from light wind and rain.

The solution was a Weinor Plaza Pro, a German designed all weather structure. This was fitted with a terracotta coloured water resistant cover which blended perfectly with the surrounding brickwork, and had white heavy duty support bars which mirrored the white rails around the front of the building.

This fixed frame awning measured 4.5 metres wide and had a projection of 5.5 metres which can not be attained with normal wall mounted awnings.

All of our operatives are trained to the highest level, fully insured and Health and Safety compliant and so carrying out this calibre of installation is no problem.

British Blind Company shades swimming pool enclosure.

The owner of this sad looking swimming pool enclosure in Kingston in Surrey, asked us to come up with an idea to cover up the unsightly roof and to create a more pleasing ambience while also keeping out the heat and glare from the sun.

We came up with the idea of hanging fixed panels manufactured from weatherproof awning fabric suspended on heavy duty roller blind poles and brackets. The results, as you can see from the photos below, are extremely improved.

We even had our electrician fix spotlights below the covers on galvanised fixings to create a lovely warm atmosphere when swimming at night.

The customer was so happy she sent us the following letter:

'I wanted to thank you once again for the beautiful blinds in our swimming pool. They are absolutely perfect, and even better than I imagined they would be.

They were well worth the 4 week wait. I have to admit that over the years you have supplied all of the blinds in my home and I have always been delighted with the results'.
